Did you help clean the Kingdom Hall, yard work, maintenance?

at one hall i attended for serveral years had a lawn covering large man-made burms with trees and bushes.

it was a difficult yard to mow and maintain.

i have often wondered why we all pitched in and worked so hard for nothing.

Your post really touched me. I can so relate to your summation of what all the asshats have done to what this religion used to be about. There just is no comparison. Like you, I hope to meet all the good ones someplace along the way again.

I did my fair share of helping out with the yard work and maintenance. A lot of it was very poorly organized, more of a 'show' like a previous poster said. Some would be working hard all day, actually getting their hands dirty and then you'd have the ueberrighteous ones showing up after their couple hours service (donut shop), and just poke around to see who exactly showed up and what they were all doing. After brief chit chat, etc. they would leave the scene without so much as lifting a finger.

What a PRIVILEGE it is to no longer be involved in that whole farce! Privilege, my ass.

Do you care about calling the Watchtower a false prophet?

over and over again the argument is made that jehovah's witnesses and/or the watchtower society are a false prophet.

arguments for the 'false prophet' label come as follows: .

the watchtower has predicted the end of the world on certain dates and such things have never transpired.

Calling them a false 'prophet' is even giving them too much credibility, imho. They're just doomsday hucksters.

Why we must obey the F&DS - according to this "brother"

some may have seen this tid-bit being passed around in certain jw email circles.

a "deeply concerned" jw relative (who knows i have soured on the whole jw thing) emailed this to me in hopes that it would improve my attitude.

at first i was just going to thank them for their concern and for the "encourgaging" email, but then i decided i must respond to this.

Wow, Bud - FANTASTIC REPLY is all I can say. Too bad I don't get any more of these 'encouraging emails' anymore, or I would for sure use your reply (with your permission of course!) Since I've stopped attending meetings, I don't hear boo from any of my former congregation acquaintances...and the emails have now ceased as well. They probably wouldn't know what to do after reading such a reply but it sure as hell would make them THINK! Damn fine job!

Not smarter. More AWARE. I think most dubs, if they are anything like I was, intentionally shut off a large field of their mental 'vision' and only choose to 'see' what's inside that limited field of view.

What I have found is that it is only once you expand your worldview that you become aware of just how blinkered your view was in the past. That liberation is empowering and frightening at the same time. I now view most dubs as deluded, albeit a delusion that they seem to enjoy.

" the man who was driving waved, backed out of the parking space and moved 3 spaces down towards the next business in the strip mall.. the driver walked over and said, "i see you are still alive.".

i said, "yes, god has kept me alive for the last 3 years.

The Emphatic Diaglott and John 1:1

i have a copy of the the diaglott published in 1942 by the wtbts and john 1:1 says: .

greek word for word: "in a beginning was the word, and the word was with the god, and a god was the word.".

english translation: "in the beginning was the logos, and the logos was with god, and the logos was god".

This may be coming out of left field, but I have trouble with the whole God's Son thing vis-a-vis the trinity argument. In what way is Jesus God's Son? He was God's only-begotten, or what I believe an 'emanation' from God - so part God obviously, the way we all are part of our parents. Jesus had no 'Mother' so he was not a 'son' in the normal course of the Word. If he is a 'son of God' the way all the sons of Isreal were 'sons of God', then there would be nothing special about him then in that sense...

I grew up with the Witness scriptures that supposedly prove Jesus was God's Son, but since reading the Bible with an open mind, I have found there to be many, many more instances of the possibility of Jesus being part God. For instance, and I can't put my finger on the scripture, but it says 'in him dwells the full Godhead bodily" - I think that's the NWT translation...I'll look that up and confirm when I get to a Bible...Also, the book of Matthew teaches that new believers are to be baptized in the 'name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit'. Not 3 names, one name. Now I find out that there is increasing evidence that the earliest Christians did worship Jesus as God. Also, Thomas exclamation - my Lord and my God. There are SO MANY scriptures, and the more one reads without the Witness MINDSET, the more scriptures do seem to support the idea that God has different ASPECTS - just my 2cents

numbers going down?

okay so a couple of years ago i went to the three days of boring random mumble jumbo.

the numbers i thought were high: almost 13thousand people.

this year i heard of the count at the arena being justover 9 thousand with about 32 baptizmals.

What I've noticed around these parts is that instead of 2 assemblies of say 13,000 - 15,000, they're now breaking them down into more and smaller assemblies at smaller venues - probably tightening up the control, because with fewer dubs to police, more policing can be accomplished!

It used to be they were DOWN on large social gatherings at the brothers' homes, now I think they're just plain scared of LARGE GATHERINGS of Witlesses that are starting to think for themselves and not letting themselves be herded like sheeple as they have in the past. They seem to be pushing brothers to travel to the assemblies via buses as well - herding the r & f just like the cattle they wish they were!
